The Maltese, the Cocker Spaniel and the Arrogant Cat…stoned?

I’m not sure what to think.  Last night our Maltese (actually, we think they lied, and that he’s a Malty-poo, but I just won’t call him that) came into the family room with his tennis ball.  He insisted on playing, but as he did so, Trish noticed he was stumbling and clumsy.  He worked himself into a frenzy.  He couldn’t jump onto things right, he was falling…and then my mom’s very old Cocker Spaniel started acting the same way.  They didn’t seem sick, really, just … well… stoned.  We can’t figure out what got into them.  They were still sick this morning, throwing up everything…still disoriented.rockyshirtsm.jpg

We searched the house, and particularly wondered if something got into their water supply…but then my mom noticed the cat.  Marmalade is an orange tabby that adopted us.  He lives in a cat condo on the back porch.  This morning he was tumbling and falling all over the place like he’d had too much catnip.  i don’t know whether to be really worried…they are sleeping…Trish is keeping an eye on them…it’s hell that you can’t talk to your pets to find out what’s wrong…and meanwhile I’m keeping an eye on the adults to make sure it doesn’t spread…the thought that someone poisoned them has come to mind…and also that the city might have sprayed something, or that some plant that has just bloomed got consumed.  There are little white flowers falling from the tree in our driveway all over everything…they could all have gotten that.

Anyway…wanted to vent…

  1. James Goodman Says:

That IS odd. If it doesn’t clear up soon, it may take a blood test to get to the bottom of it. I hope the effects are very temporary…

  2. James Goodman Says:

I just checked with my wife (she worked as a vet tech for several years) she said, a few things that can cause those symptoms in animals of varying size (weight), would be the consumption of Tylenol or… antifreeze. Definately hope it isn’t the latter.
