Superbowl Trivia - and Bram Stoker Preliminaries
I was talking with some other football fans today — actually, they were giving me a bunch of crap about the fact that The San Diego Chargers have never won a Superbowl. I said I thought a bunch of teams had never even BEEN to the Superbowl. None of us, it turned out, knew the answer, so I turned to our old friend Google and came up with the following two lists. I have nothing more to say other than, at least the Chargers aren’t on the SHORT list, and let’s hope they soon get off the longer one…

In a more pertinent note - It appears to be official. My collection, Defining Moments, has made the preliminary ballot for the Bram Stoker Award.
This is relatively meaningless, except that I know a bunch of folks read and loved it, and for that I’m grateful already. It was the last book Sarob Press put out - and that makes me happy for Robert Morgan, the publisher. Would be nice to help usher him out on a high note. My short story, which you can read live here on the site, “The Gentle Brush of Wings,” also made the preliminary ballot, and Joe Nassise and I made the cut with STORYTELLERS UNPLUGGED - our group literary blog - in the non-fiction category. This is the best start to a Stoker process I’ve seen in my career, so, again I’m grateful.

Triple balloting (;
The next step is that there will be a vote on the preliminary ballot by active members. We will choose up to (I think) three in each category, putting them in order 1st to 3rd. There is a point system. The top entries make the final ballot in each category (I think it’s five, but don’t quote me, maybe only three) - these are nominees. Then the actives vote again among those nominees for the winners…it’s enough to drive a fella crazy.
