Sony’s Ebookstore - Apparently, Finally, I’m There
Most authors, I’m sure, check now and then to see what Google is turning up in association with their name. Some of us have to do that because we’ve fallen onto the black list of such Internet luminaries as the barely coherent Nickolaus Pacione - I found a book review of his this morning on Amazon.com where he gives his opinion of ROBERT BLOCH’S PSYCHOS - an anthology sponsored by the Horror Writer’s Association. I have a story in that volume, “Blameless,” and Nick - while liking the book, overall, took a paragraph to explain why my story was a one star, because I have a bad personality and should really quit the genre. Is it a club now? I didn’t know I was a member…do I want to be part of a club that would have me?
Anyway…I reported the personal attack and barely-written-in-English review to Amazon, as usual, and went on my way. I was surprised, soon after that, to find that my name popped up on a site from Sony. A while back, I was approached by Martin Greenberg and associates, whose anthologies I’ve appeared in several times, about electronic rights to some of my stories. I agreed to the experiment, but never really heard anything about it after that. Now you can order three of those stories, .99 apiece, from the Sony Ebookstore online. You can get their library software and reader for free on the website. It’s pretty spiffy - definitely a BIG step up from the pdf book and story downloads at Amazon (where they still don’t have their act together).
Anyway..for those interested…here are some links.
The Sony Ebookstore Software is Here.
The Stories of Mine Available in the Store are Here.
Give a click, check it out - search some of the other available works. There are a surprising number of horror, science fiction, and fantasy stories available. I downloaded the software and then bought one of my own stories to see how it presented. I’m impressed. It even includes the ability to search text within the book, which could come in handy - particularly for people doing book reviews.
I’m not a fan of ebooks, but I do a lot of reading on line, and have read the galleys of other people’s books electronically for review and blurbing many times. This is a pleasant interface, easy to use, easy to sign up. It’s worth a moment or two of your time.
And if you were approached over a year ago for those same rights by Marty or Larry or one of the others, you might want to check your name on the list and see if you are available for download too.
Later, I will be posting some videos -Sarah Palin making sure here career is not plagued by witchcraft, a DNA test from the Larry Springer Show, and David Letterman’s take on McCain’s silly suspension of his campaign…the fun never ends, it seems.
