Vintage Soul Now Available – Series Launched!
Okay, the dust has cleared. Vintage Soul has been released. All of those who pre-ordered the novel have had their copies shipped … and now the real fun begins. How do I build a fandom for this new character? How do I entice all of you take a chance on this book, lay down your money, and give me a few hours of your time? I’m gratified that all reader reactions so far have been very positive. I’m also happy to see that the sales rank of the book at Amazon jumped up from 4,000,000 plus into the 147k range. I want to see more. I want to see this gain popularity, which will help me sell it (and book II) into mass market and reach a much larger audience.
How can you help? Glad you asked …

First Vintage Soul Review is In..
Kurt Criscione has made good use of his review ARC of Vintage Soul to provide the very first review – available on his site and on Barnes & Noble. This book can be pre-ordered through me between now and December 1st at a good discount if you follow me on Twitter, participate in Nanowrimo, or follow me on Facebook. Pre-order before Nanowrimo in November, and you will be entered into a drawing for a shot at being a character in “Heart of a Dragon,” book II in the series.
“David Niall Wilson introduces us to a world of Darkness… vampires are real, integrated into society, magic is real and has its mores and rules. When a centuries old Vampire is kidnapped from her home, for the purposes of fulfilling a forbidden and vile ritual, her lover turns to DeChance, a human wizard, book collector, and oft times private investigator.
This book book has no “Fat”, it’s lean and quick to the punch. Once the kidnapping hits it just rolls forward with a force and drive all its own. We have a ‘whodunit’… a villian who has intricately planned every step and who’s crimes only start with the kidnapping. At every step he has thought ahead and planned. The book runs at a quick pace and on a good rainy day you can probably finish it in one or two sittings. The characters are all interesting and multifaceted, and since this is a planned multi-volume series there are a ton of threads for new stories, new facets, and even more character growth.”
A Quick Glimpse at the Limited Edition Art
This is the front half of the wrap-around cover by artist Don Paresi for the Bad Moon Books limited edition of Vintage Soul. There is also some cool interior art, as well as a very neat signature sheet, also drawn, painted, and signed by the artist. Don did the covers for my novel Ancient Eyes, and my collection Defining Moments as well as this work for Vintage Soul. He and I served together in the US Navy on board the USS Paul F. Foster long, long ago. We shared some serious adventures, played a lot of guitar, recorded some pretty interesting music, and we are still in touch. That says a lot, since I checked onto that ship in 1981…that makes him one of my longest held contacts. He’s also one heck of an artist.
I’ll post the back cover soon, and some of the interior stuff, but I don’t want to give away all the goodies!
December 2009 … the Series Begins
In December VINTAGE SOUL will be published by Five Star Publishing – and simultaneously released in limited edition by Bad Moon Books. This novel is book one in The DeChance Chronicles – tales of Donovan DeChance, book collector, mage, private investigator, and much more.
In Vintage Soul, a beautiful 300 year old vampire is stolen from beneath her lover’s nose, despite arcane security. There is no demand for ransom, and there are no clues. When Donovan agrees to look into the matter, he finds that he’s up against a lot more than a single kidnapping – and it will take all the arcane knowledge at his disposal to prevent a very ancient ritual from being enacted and to save his client from a fate much worse than a second and final death.
Vintage Soul was written during the National Novel Writing Month – Nanowrimo – and I will be offering a couple of very special pre-order discounts.
If you have ever participated in Nanowrimo, met the Nanowrimo challenge successfully, or if you follow me on Twitter - you will receive a minimum of 20 percent off by pre-ordering, as well as the chance to participate in a couple of worthwhile charities – and your copy will be signed! Stay tuned for details.
