A Five Question MEME - Music That Moves You
I’ve always wanted to try one of these to see if it would proliferate and spread all over the Internet like some seem to. There’s probably a generator somewhere, but I’m just going to write it out and post it and see what happens.
What song lyric taken completely out of context has become important to you?
“To put it in words, to write it down, that is walking on hallowed ground, but it’s my duty . . . I’m a missionary.” Taken from Depeche Mode’s SACRED - they were singing about sex.
What was the last stupid lyric to catch in your head and not let go?
“We all just wanna be big rock stars and live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars, the girls come easy and the drugs come cheap, we’ll all stay skinny ’cause we just won’t eat…yada yada I wanna be a rock star…” - taken from NickelBack - Rockstar - A group and song I don’t hate like many of my friends do - but after a few listens those lyrics are…well…
Have you ever bought a record / CD for the cover art alone - what, and why?
YES - Ten Inch Men - because the cover art caught my eye, and the song titles seemed cool, and I was in the US Navy a million miles from home and needed something new to listen to. I still have it - it’s called Pretty Vultures - singer went on to be in Talk Show with the members of STP. Since then, because of mentioning them in my blog, I’ve met most of the members of the band, gotten to hear music they’ve created that no one else has heard, and set out on a quest to own all their recorded songs. Great guys, and great music. The moral of the story is, cover art IS a good enough reason to buy…
What is the LAST CD you bought / downloaded, and why?
Concrete Blonde: MOJAVE - downloaded the entire CD from Amazon.com because it was quicker. I’ve been listening to, and loving, Johnette Napolitano and Concrete Blonde for years. Much of my writing has their words and rhythms imbedded in it. I was listening to the station I created on PANDORA - see the DESTINATIONS link to the right and go to Shadeaux Planet Radio - and a song came up that was definitely Concrete Blonde, but from an album I’d never seen. I was / am very happy to have new music by one of my favorite groups. Thank you Pandora.
What CD do you own that you think would make your friends shake their heads in either pity, or a total lack of comprehension?
“Man O’ War” - the group - Total Coelo. I discovered them on MTV through an incredibly sexy video (I was single, trashed, and impressed). The song is inane, but it stuck with me and stuck with me and finally one day, unable to explain it to someone, I went on eBay - found a copy - and bought it. It sits with my 13 Stories CD that I bought because of the BEEP BEEP song on the commercial. Lame? Yes. But they are MINE.
Final bonus question: What are you listening to right now? - I, of course, opened MOJAVE by Concrete Blonde because I was writing about it and wanted to hear it. Next? Ten Inch Men - Pretty Vultures.

This is a fun meme. I’ll have to help you spread it around.

Jim,
It rocked MORE with the video. I can remember some of the times they’d slide behind one another and you’d JUST CATCH what they were saying - mostly reading lips - and think…they did NOT say that on TV..
James,
Thanks man. I realize there was probably some way most people do this other than just writing it out…hopefully I didn’t make it hard on everyone.
